Xbox One S turning off unexpectedly? Try These solutions

Microsoft has released new Xbox One S the subtle upgrade of existing Xbox One. It’s affordable and bundled with lots of new features and improvements. But for some of the users experiencing an issue where the Xbox One S turning off unexpectedly after turning on.  For others console shutting off after game loads or the system won’t power on, or if it does, it is for a limited time only and then quickly shuts off.

If you are also experience similar problem, here some of the solutions to apply.

  1. The first thing you have to check and make sure everything is connected properly

  2. Then Verify that your power brick is working properly.

All Xbox One power bricks have a light on them to signify they are receiving electrical current. If you see a solid white or solid orange light, the power supply is working properly. If there is no light or it flickers, it needs to be replaced. 

Install the latest Updates.

Make sure you have installed all the updates for your Xbox One. We know Updating the system of your Xbox One to the latest version can resolve many issues.

To do this

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

  2. Navigate to Settings then All settings.

  3. Select System and next  Updates.

  4. For console, select Keep my console up to date; for games & apps, select Keep my games & apps up to date.

To get the update manually:

  1. Connect your Xbox One to the Internet.

  2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

  3. Navigate to Settings > All settings.

  4. Select System > Updates > Update console.

Xbox One shutdown unexpectedly

If you experience Xbox One shutdown unexpectedly then check If it is overheating,

If you received a message stating that your Xbox One console is getting improper ventilation, or it’s hot to the touch, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the console.

  2. Wait at least one hour.

  3. Move the console to a well-ventilated spot.

  4. Turn on the console.

Make sure your console is in a cool, well-ventilated place. Remove any objects on, under, or right next to the console.

Also look at the light on the power brick if its flickering or black, then this is most likely a power issue that shut down the console unexpectedly.

Reset the internal power supply

  1. First, unplug the power cord from the back of the console

  2. Press and hold down the power button on the device for up to 10 seconds or more.

  3. Wait a few seconds at least 10 seconds.

  4. Now plug it right back in

  5. Press the Xbox button on the console to get it up and to run.

Change the console settings so it doesn’t turn off automatically

  1. Turn on the console.

  2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

  3. Select System > Settings > Power.

  4. Select Turn off or restart.

Xbox one S shutting off after game loads

To fix this type of issue the manufacturer suggests to clear persistent storage (Blu-ray data that’s been cached on the console). Here follow steps below to clear persistent storage.

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

  2. Select System > Settings > Disc & Blu-ray.

  3. Select Blu-ray.

  4. Select Persistent storage.

  5. Select Clear persistent storage.

  6. Turn off and unplug your console, and then wait 5 minutes.

  7. Plug in and turn on your console, and try streaming the content again.

try a wired connection

Also Microsoft suggests trying a wired connection Because some of wireless routers have settings that may cause your Xbox One console to shut down unexpectedly. For example, a power-saving setting or network setting may cause your console to shut down.

Some have reported that disabling automatic updates can fix this issue. Head to Settings > System > Updates and uncheck Keep my console up to date. You can uncheck Keep my games & apps up to date as well if you like. (via MakeUseOf)

If none of above solutions work for you, then chances are the Xbox One S faulty, and as such, the owner must take it to a repairman or replace the unity entirely.
