Windows 10 May 2020 update version 2004 new features and improvements
After over a year of testing in the channels of the Windows Insider program, finally today 27, may 2020 Microsoft has released Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 2004 build 19041 for everyone. The latest feature update for Windows 10 brings in a whole lot of fresh features and performance refinements to Microsoft’s popular operating system. Like previous Windows 10 feature updates, the latest May 2004 update also includes a number of new features and improvements that include a more efficient algorithm for Windows Search, Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2), with a custom-built Linux kernel, improved Cortana experience and even more kaomoji to start. Here are all the new Windows 10 May 2020 Update features that we know of.
Note: This release (Windows 10 May 2020 Update) will be delivered as a full OS update, and not as a cumulative update like Windows 10 version 1909.

Windows 10 May 2020 update features
Microsoft has taken such a long time preparing for the Windows 10 May 2020 Update and bring significant changes in the Windows Subsystem for Linux, Cortana, Windows Search, Your Phone and more. This release brings the ability to download Windows 10 from the cloud if you need to factory reset your PC. Also there are small improvements designed to enhance the quality of life for Windows 10 users. Here the Windows 10’s May 2020 Update features we know so far.
Cloud download for reinstallations
Whenever you try to reinstall or reset Windows 10 due to performance and technical issues, you know that the process required extra time and an uncorrupted Windows installation. But with the latest Windows 10 May 2020 Update The company included a new “Cloud Download” option that helps get back to Windows 10 faster and the reset process will not fail even when the previous installation is corrupted. During the process, Microsoft installs the most recent version of Windows 10 with the latest cumulative update fixes.
Go to Settings > Update and Security > Recovery
Choose to reset your PC and remove everything,
Then tell Windows to use “Cloud Download”. Instead of reinstalling Windows 10 from the files on your local system,
Windows will download the latest version of Windows 10 and install it on your system.
Note: During the installation, Windows will gather the drivers from your current Windows 10 installation, so everything will be up and running after the process completes.
Windows Subsystem for Linux 2
the most notable change in the latest Windows 10 may 2020 update is Microsoft’s Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 that includes a custom Microsoft-developed Linux open-source kernel that integrates with Windows 10. This Linux integration in Windows 10 will greatly improve the performance of Microsoft’s Linux subsystem in Windows. It allows you to run virtualized Linux packages alongside your Windows applications with much greater performance capabilities compared with the old Linux Subsystem tools. If you use Linux, you’ll also be able to place your Linux files within the Linux root file system and access them via Windows File Explorer. Microsoft is also promising to update this kernel through Windows Update, and it will be open source so developers can create their own WSL kernel and contribute changes.

Windows Search improvements
The Windows 10 May 2019 Update fixed Start menu search by taking advantage of the old Windows search indexer. Insiders were turning off the search indexer, however, due to excessive disk and CPU usage and general performance issues. Microsoft said it’s now detecting peak usage times so it can better optimize when the indexer runs. The end result is that the search is now faster by default.
Also the company added quick search options to the bottom of the main search bar to bring you information about the weather, news, today in history or new movies. There is also a Bing image search that lets you grab a screenshot and search for information about it on Bing.
Along the top of the search, UI is quick access to your Microsoft Rewards points. You can see at a glance how many points you currently have, and clicking it will take you to the Rewards website to redeem any points you may have.
Cortana is now an app
The Windows 10 May 2020 update includes a standalone Cortana app, which can be undocked from the Taskbar. Cortana will open to a new chat-style interface that lets you type in questions if you’re not in the mood to speak aloud. That chat box will retain your past conversations so you can quickly revisit them. Quick search options in Cortana will let you ask popular questions without typing. From the Cortana chatbox, you can send emails and schedule meetings, among other things.
Disk type and GPU temp in Task Manager
Windows 10’s Task Manager now displays your disk type, whether it’s SSD or HDD, making it easier to see the hardware in your computer. These details are now displayed on the Performance tab. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and then click “More Details”.
The Task Manager’s performance tab will also display your GPU temperature. Just go to your GPU’s status page under the Performance tab. This only works with dedicated graphics cards. It doesn’t work with integrated or onboard GPUs.
Make your device passwordless
There is a new “Make your device passwordless” option on the Settings > Accounts > Sign-in page. It can basically abolish passwords and require everyone on your PC to sign in with a PIN or a Windows Hello biometric sign-in method like face or fingerprint unlock.
Disable restarting apps at sign-in
Windows 10 auto-reopens many applications, like Google Chrome, after you restart your PC. Now, you can disable this option. Head to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Under Restart apps, toggle off “Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them.
Improved Network Status pane
Now the current Network & Internet > Data usage Settings page is being folded into the Network Status page to provide more of a data dashboard. In addition, you can now see how much data is being used by a network right from the “Status” page
Support for network cameras
The latest Windows 10 May 2020 update now supports IP-based cameras. And you can add network-based cameras by going to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth and other devices > Add Bluetooth or other devices. If there’s a supported camera on your local network, Windows 10 will find it, or you can add it to your system in one click. Then, you can use the built-in Camera app to access the network camera.
Minor update and changes
With this update windows users now able to pair a Bluetooth device directly from the notification, when the device is detected, without opening the Settings app.
The language settings page now include links to all the major language and region settings, including the Windows language, app language, regional format, and more.
The cursor speed settings have been brought over from the old Control Panel to the Settings app, further converging the feature set of the two.
Windows Sandbox now supports microphones, you can now use configuration files with Windows Sandbox, so you can change certain settings such as enabling or disabling the vGPU, allowing network access, and more.
Previously with Windows 10 version 1903, the emoji panel was expanded with kaomoji and symbols and now more kaomoji have been added to the list, making it even easier to let your friends know you’re weird.

And finally Today 27 May 2020 Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 2004 build 19041 to customers and will start rolling out to users over the next few days and weeks.
