  1. Open settings app using keyboard shortcut Windows + I,

  2. Click on Update & security than Windows update,

  3. Here hit check for updates button to allow windows updates download and install from Microsoft server.

  4. And restart your PC to apply them

Clean Boot Your Windows 10

If this is the first time that you had a problem with Edge browser, one of the first things you should do is to restart your PC. What’s more, you should do a clean boot. It allows you to run your PC with only a minimal set of drivers and programs.

To perform clean boot 

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows logo + R at the same time,

  2. Then type msconfig and press Enter.

  3. This will open the system configuration window.

  4. Go to Services tab, check the box for Hide all Microsoft services.

  5. And click Disable all button.

  2. Select each item on the list and choose Disable.

  3. Now close your Task Manager and restart your computer.

See if the same problem occurs with clean boot mode. If Edge still opens and closes unexpectedly in a few seconds, then you can move on the Next steps.

Clear the browser cache

Piled up cache and browsing history can also cause your Edge browser (and any other browser) to run slow. If Microsoft Edge opens but stops working, you can Clear browsing history and cache data to fix the problem.

  1. Run Microsoft Edge. Click the three dots button in the upper right corner.

  2. Click History then click Clear History.

Run the Troubleshooter

Run the build-in Windows store app troubleshooter that automatically detects and fix problems with the Microsoft Edge browser.

  1. Open Settings app using the keyboard shortcut Windows + I,

  2. Click on Update & security then troubleshoot on the left pane,

  3. Now scroll down and locate Windows store

  4. Select Windows Store apps then click run the troubleshooter,

  5. This will start to diagnose and fix problems causing edge browser working normally.

  6. Once the diagnose process completes Restart your PC and check if edge browser working normally.

Reset Microsoft Edge to Default

If you can’t open Microsoft Edge after an update, or Microsoft edge closes after opening it’s probably the application files are corrupted that prevent edge browser running. Reset the browser to its default state probably help to fix the problem.

  1. Press Windows + X keyboard shortcut and select settings,

  2. Next click on apps than apps and features,

  3. Scroll down and locate Microsoft Edge, click on it,

  4. Next click on Advanced options link,

Note: Repairing the app won’t affect anything, but Reset will remove all your data from the browser. Think before you click Reset.

  1. First click on the repair button, after that open edge browser and check if this working normally.

  2. If Repair doesn’t help, repeat the steps above and click Reset.

Repair Corrupted System Files

Also, Corrupted system files can cause different errors on windows computers and may this edge not responding is caused due to system file corruption. We recommend Repair windows system files by fallowing bellow.

Search for cmd Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. Now run the following command lines one by one hit enter key to execute the command.

  1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

  2. SFC/scannow

Note: the scanning process will take some time to complete the scan and repair process, wait until 100% complete the process.

Reinstall Edge Browser

Still, the problem not resolved, edge browser not responding or Microsoft edge closes after a few seconds Here the effective solution work for most of Windows 10 users.

  1. Search for PowerShell,

  2. Righ click on PowerShell and select Run as administrator,

  3. When the PowerShell prompt opens type bellow command and hit the enter key to execute the same.

Once the command executed, restart your PC and check if there is no more problem with the edge browser.

Create a New User Account

Creating a new user account will generate a new edge browser profile and with new profile edge will run smoother.  

  1. To create a user account on windows 10 simply open command prompt as administrator.

  2. Next type below command and hit enter key to create a new user account.

net user % usre name % %password% /add

Note: %user name % change your new create username. %password %: Type password for your new created user account. Ex : net user sri p@$$word /add

you will get an out message the command completed successfully. That means user account created successfully. Now Logoff From Current user Account and log in with New created User account. Open the Edge Browser check working normally without any problem crashes, not responding etc.

Tweak Registry Setting permissions

The user suggested method: one of our readers suggested this method

  1. Press Windows + R type regedit and hit the enter key.

  2. This will open Windows registry editor

  3. Backup registry database then navigate to the following path.

  1. Here right click folder Named”microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe” at the left panel, and click Permission.

  2. Select the third Unknown account (S-1-15-3-3624051433 ….).

  3. You will see only Read permission is selected. Let’s check “All permission”.

  4. Click OK and close the window.

  5. Now restart windows to take save changes and check edge browser working fine.
